Let the DS Sunday Sessions Commence!

And who better to kick things off than our very own Dance Stables Director, Cara Louise Horsley.

While many of you will see Cara fairly regularly and know what an outstanding teacher she is, you may not know what inspired Cara to start her own company and what she gets up to when she’s not in class...

Cara’s skill and passion for dance led her to train at the renowned Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Here, she undertook her Foundation course in Dance Performance and three-year vocational Contemporary Dance degree, being taught by some of best teachers in the industry. After graduating, Cara continued to establish herself in the dance world through her choreography, performance and teaching.

Her growing Dance Performance group - Dance Stables Collective - has recently performed in theatres such as Sadler’s Wells (Lilian Baylis Theatre), Jacksons Lane and Watford Colosseum. Her company, Dance Stables, provides classes in a variety of styles at venues and schools across London. These classes provide an open, secure platform for children and adults to explore their creativity, build confidence and share their love for Dance and the arts.

Cara is very excited to be starting the Sunday Sessions on Sunday 8th April 2018, which offer dancers and those who love to dance, a chance to explore their creativity with a diverse range of choreographers and teachers. Cara will be teaching our first two weeks of workshops on Sunday 8th and 15th April 2018.

So what can we expect from Cara’s class?

“Confidence is key, trust your body’s choices. You can only dance with the body you bring into the studio - explore your own natural movement qualities while pushing your capabilities. We aim to maintain friendly, relaxed atmosphere where dancers are not afraid to "give it a go" and know that there are no mistakes, only different movement choices.”

This class will focus on a blend of technical exercises and movement sequences that build to a longer creative phrase and improvisations. The inspiration for the movement will draw on dance experiences from around the world, as well as performance work. Cara is particularly interested in fusing the qualities of various types of dance styles and genres and you can expect this eclectic mix to be evident in musical accompaniment!
